Legacy (PIN/Handle) Accounts

A Legacy Account is one that was created prior to 7/8/09 with a PIN/Handle.

Buzztime has moved away from the old PIN/Handle technology, and to a new Username/Password model! The below questions are for our Legacy players and address questions that Legacy Players might have in general, and about the upgrade that we have made from the old PIN/Handle system, to the new Username/Password model. A Username/Password is now required to log in.

If you registered with Buzztime on/after July 8, 2009 you will not need to worry about the below FAQ and do not need to upgrade your account because you already have a Username/Password. You will not have a PIN associated with your account.

NOTE: A Username/Passwrod is now required to log in. Learn More!

Q: Why can't I log in to the web site with my old PIN/Handle?
A:
You will not be able to log into the web site using your old PIN/Handle. You must use your Username/Password. If you do not have a Username/Password associated with your PIN/Handle account you will need to upgrade your account before logging in. To upgrade your PIN/Handle account to a Username/Password account just visit Buzztime.com/register/siteselect and follow the prompts:

  1. Select the location that your PIN/Handle account is currently associated with.
  2. Enter your current Handle and 4-digit PIN.
  3. Choose a Username and Password.

Q: I accidentally opened a new account instead of upgrading my current account - OR - I didn't know that I could change my home site online, and so I opened a new account instead. Can I combine the two accounts?
A:
Please do not set up a new account in order to change your home site location. Instead, simply log in online and visit the Edit My Info page on the Players section of the web site to change your account information. If you've already created a new account and would like to have the two accounts combined, please contact us. Note: Points from the two accounts will be combined, but the stats will only carry over from one account. We will choose the account with the most stats within a 6 month period. Buzztime is not responsible for lost stats, medals or Player Reward Card games. Buzztime will not combine multiple accounts that were played at the same period of time (multiboxing).

Q: What is the three-letter PlayersPlus code for my location?
A:
In the past, a unique three-letter code was assigned to each bar or restaurant. It helped Buzztime to differentiate between players with identical PIN numbers. In this manner, a player with PIN 1111 at Bar A had a different account than another player with PIN 1111 at Bar B. With the new universal Username/Password log in model, no site code is necessary.

Q: I can't seem to log into the Playmaker with my PIN/Handle even when I use all 7 digits (i.e. 1234ABC)
A:
We have completely switched over to the Username/Password model now. You must log in with your Username/Password. PIN/Handles will no longer work. If you haven't already, add a Username and Password to your PIN/Handle account at Buzztime.com/register/siteselect.

Q: I have lost my Handle and PIN from an old account. Can you find them for me?
A:
We can attempt to locate your old account by using an email address if you entered one while signing up. If you know which email address you used when registering you may contact us and we can try to find the information for you. Make sure to include all information that you can in the "Comments" field. If we are unable to find your PIN/Handle, we encourage you to rejoin Buzztime and start a new PlayersPlus account using Username and Password. If we are able to find your PIN/Handle, you will need to upgrade your account to a Username/Password at Buzztime.com/register/siteselect. NOTE: The PlayersPlus program is Buzztime's Frequent Player program. Once an account becomes inactive for more then one year it is subject to deletion.

Q: I recently remembered the PIN from an old account. Can I transfer the points to my current account?
A:
The PlayersPlus program is Buzztime's Frequent Player program. Once an account becomes inactive for more then one year it is subject to deletion. The PlayersPlus accounts must be kept active to remain in the database. If your old account has not yet been deleted you may contact us to see if we can combine the two accounts.

Q: I already have a Username/Password that I use to log into the website. Do I need to do anything else?
A:
No. If you already have a Username/Password that you use to log into our website, then you are all set! All you have to do is make sure that you are using that Username/Password to log in to the Playmaker.

Q: Why did you change from PIN/Handle to Username/Password?
A:
We have converted to a single Username and Password system, which allows you to log in with the same information no matter where you are! The PIN/Handle system was set up a long time ago when we didn't have quite so many locations or players. It was also set up before we had a website... so once we introduced the website we suddenly had two seperate log ins, which was very confusing! It became apparent that not only were our new users confused by the fact that they logged in online with a Username/Password and on the Playmaker with a PIN/Handle, but that our old technology was not going to last us much longer. So we set out to completely adopt the Username/Password model which is commonly used across the Web today. We believe that once our users have upgraded their PIN/Handle accounts, to Username/Password accounts, logging in will be easier because there will only be one log in for all of our platforms (Playmaker, Online, Mobile). The new system is also more secure, and more robust in terms of storing information, like stats and scores.

Q: But I love my PIN and Handle. Is there any way to keep it?
A:
Yes and no. Your Handle isn't really going away at all. We're just calling it something else. Your Handle is now your Display Name, and still shows up in all the same places your Handle always has. Display Name = Handle. Same thing! One way to make the transition easier is to set your Password so that it is the same as your 4-digit PIN. This way you won't need to remember a new Password when logging in!

Q: How do I add a Username/Password to my old PIN/Handle account?
A: Add a Username/Password to your traditional PIN/Handle account by visiting Buzztime.com/register/siteselect.

  1. Select the location that your PIN/Handle account is associated with.
  2. Enter your current Handle and 4-digit PIN.
  3. Choose a Username and Password.

Remember that your Username must be unique, and your Password is case sensitive. Don't want to stop using your PIN? Here's a tip! Just set your 4-digit PIN as your new Password. You are also able to upgrade your account from a Playmaker.

Q: My old PIN/Handle account is tied to a closed location. How do I upgrade to a Username/Password account?
A: Add a Username/Password to your traditional PIN/Handle account by visiting Buzztime.com/register/siteselect.
  1. Select the location that your PIN/Handle account is associated with.
  2. Enter your current Handle and 4-digit PIN.
  3. Choose a Username and Password.

Remember that your Username must be unique, and your Password is case sensitive. Don't want to stop using your PIN? Here's a tip! Just set your PIN as your new Password. Once you are logged into the website simply visit the Edit My Info page to change to a new home location.

Q: I don't care about the web site. Do I still need to upgrade my account?
A:
Yes, you will still need to upgrade your account so that you can log in on the Playmaker with a Username and Password. You will not need to log in online unless you need to change account information such as your home site location, password, email address, etc. While we offer many great features and benefits online, we are not forcing you to interact with Buzztime in that way if you do not want to.

Q: Can my new Password be a word? Or does it have to remain numbers?
A: Your Password can contain letters and numbers. We encourage you to choose a Password that is easy for you to remember and enter on the Playmaker. Remember that Passwords are case-sensitive, so check to see if your Caps Lock or Shift (depending upon your Playmaker model) is active if you get an error message. TIP: If you don't want to see your PIN go, just set your new Password to be the same as your old 4-digit PIN!

Q: Does it take more time to log in with the Username/Password system?
A:
The new log in system does not take any longer than the current log in model. A benefit of the new system is that the Playmaker will notify you if you entered your Username/Password incorrectly. No more lost points or stats for accidentally pushing the wrong button!

Q: After upgrading to a Username/Password account, can I still change my Display Name (Handle)?
A:
Yes, you may change this at any time online by going to the Edit My Info page. Your new Username/Password does not affect your on-screen Display Name (Handle). There may still be multiple people with the same Display Name as you (like it currently is), but there will never be anyone with the same Username as you.

Q: How does the new system affect players with existing Username/Password accounts?
A:
You can now log in at Buzztime locations, on the web and with a mobile device with your Username/Password information.

Q: Will I lose my PlayersPlus points when I upgrade my PIN/Handle to a Username/Password account?
A:
No, your PlayersPlus points will stay with you. This change keeps better track of your points and there will no longer be a need for combining accounts.

Q: Does this mean I have to remember my password for the Web site?
A:
Buzztime.com will remember you until you choose to log out. Once you are logged out you will need your Username and Password to log back in.

Q: Is my online Username/Password the same Username/Password I use to log into the Playmaker?
A:
Yes, you will use the same Username/Password to log in where ever you are (online, on site or mobile)!

Q: Is this new system less secure than the previous system?
A:
No, this new system is more secure than our previous system and is also better at collecting and retaining your scores.
