Some Highlights: Meeting Drew Brees. Brees is a known poker enthusiast (clearly) and is considered a ‘Saint’ in Louisiana. I’m upset I didn’t get a chance to play against him. Did get a picture though.
At my first table, first group, I was seated next to a woman that was getting No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em coaching tips from former NFL Star Andre Reed. Reed kept telling her to fold. My guess is he had no interest in her making the final table. More chips for me! ‘Neuro Drinks’. As soon as ‘Red’ and I entered the poker room we were greeted with these special drinks from `Neuro’. I was told one drink would increase my serotonin levels (Which would alleviate the pain of ‘bad beats’) and the other would increase my mental creativity (BLUFF time!). Maybe it was the placebo effect, maybe it was the drinks, but I was definitely happy and feeling creative. The overall vibe and style of play was a great change of pace. Normally when I play poker it’s either on my Mobile Playmaker or in places like Atlantic City, Vegas or Hawaiian Gardens. Which means I am either alone, getting mad at my phone or with a lot of people that want to take my money. However, at this event most of the players were nice businessmen who were just looking to have a good time(and playing with no concept of strategy). Needless to say… I thought I had a good chance at winning. However, there was one thing that stood in my way: The Blinds. Most real (not Charity) poker tournaments take forever. To combat this problem and get the tournament finished quickly they were raising the blinds every 5 minutes. After the first break I had one of the biggest chip stacks in the room. By the time I was on my second big blind after the break the blind was half my stack. This would have been fine, if not for the big stack at the table moving all-in on me pre-flop. I had 8-7 unsuited. I couldn’t call. Someone did call and the big stack showed his pocket 3’s. He ended up getting four of a kind. Luck is crucial in poker. I had to go all in four hands later with queen-ten suited and I barely missed the Final table. That was that. I didn’t make the final table, but I did get a picture with Chris Harrison, which I was told was ‘very cool’. He was a nice guy. It was a fun event, with good people in support of a great cause. I want to remind everyone to play World Series of Poker Bonus Topix at a Buzztime location on Thursday 5/27 at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT. The 3 Finalists from the Buzztime Guru (Rags) Giveaway will be playing for a chance to go to Vegas! Until then, keep your poker faces on and aces for everyone! Comments (0) Share this page! |
